Bhutto dedicated his life to empowering the masses: Baloch

KARACHI: Pakistan observes the death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto—a leader whose legacy continues to influence the country’s political direction, social consciousness, and strategic strength, said spokesman of Sindh Government Mustafa Abdullah Baloch.

In his write-up on 47th death anniversary of Bhutto, he said Quaid-e-Awam Bhutto was a dynamic statesman who dedicated his life to empowering the masses, strengthening national sovereignty, and redefining the relationship between the state and its citizens.

One of Bhutto’s most defining contributions was his role in initiating Pakistan’s nuclear programme. At a critical juncture in regional geopolitics, he recognised the importance of securing the country’s long-term defence. With unwavering resolve, he laid the foundation for Pakistan’s emergence as a nuclear power— an achievement that reinforced its strategic stability and elevated its standing on the global stage.

Beyond defence, he noted, Bhutto’s enduring strength lay in his deep connection with ordinary Pakistanis, particularly labourers and farmers. He brought their struggles into the national spotlight and sought to transform their lives through meaningful reforms. For workers, he introduced labour policies aimed at improving wages, strengthening rights, and ensuring better working conditions. His initiatives also extended to providing social protection, including housing and healthcare benefits. For farmers, Bhutto implemented significant land reforms that aimed to empower small landholders and address longstanding inequalities in rural areas. By prioritising agricultural development, he reinforced the central role of farmers in sustaining the national economy.

At the heart of Bhutto’s vision was a commitment to social justice and inclusivity. He believed that every citizen— regardless of background— deserved dignity, opportunity, and a voice in shaping the country’s future. His political message resonated deeply with the underprivileged, fostering a sense of participation and ownership among millions who had long felt marginalised.

Baloch recounted that among his most lasting achievements was the Constitution of Pakistan (1973), a landmark document that continues to guide the country’s democratic system. Built on consensus, it established a parliamentary framework, guaranteed fundamental rights, and strengthened the federation. To this day, it remains a powerful symbol of unity, institutional continuity, and the rule of law.

On the international front, Bhutto played a pivotal role in enhancing Pakistan’s diplomatic profile. His leadership in hosting the 1974 Islamic Summit Conference brought together leaders from across the Muslim world, promoting unity, cooperation, and a shared global vision. This initiative significantly elevated Pakistan’s international standing.

As the nation reflects on Bhutto’s contributions, it also revisits his enduring vision: a democratic Pakistan that is strong, self-reliant, and prosperous—a country where labourers are respected, farmers are empowered, and every citizen has a stake in progress.

Mustafa Abdullah Baloch said decades after his martyrdom his vision continues to inspire—urging the nation to uphold democracy, pursue progress, and remain united in the face of challenges. His legacy is not just a chapter of history, but a guiding force for generations to come.
