KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Saturday forecast thunderstorms and rain of light to moderate intensity across several Sindh districts over the coming days as a westerly wave continues to affect most parts of the country.
Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Umerkot and Tharparkar districts are expected to experience thunderstorm activity on Sunday, March 29, while Badin, Umerkot and Tharparkar are likely to see continued unsettled conditions on Monday, March 30.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has warned that windstorms, hailstorms and lightning accompanying the system may damage weak structures, including electric poles, billboards and solar panels. Isolated lightning strikes are also possible during the forecast period.
Farmers have been advised to manage their crops according to prevailing weather conditions, as hailstorms and windstorms pose a risk to standing crops.
For Karachi, the PMD forecast partly cloudy skies and drizzle chances on Sunday. Conditions are expected to improve by Monday, with mostly sunny weather forecast.
Temperatures across the city are expected to peak between 31 and 33 Celsius over the weekend, rising to 32–34 Celsius on Monday, with minimums of 24–26 Celsius. Winds will remain west to southwesterly throughout the period.
The PDMA has asked all concerned deputy commissioners and district disaster management authorities to take necessary mitigation measures.
