LAHORE: The Punjab wildlife department has intensified its crackdown on illegal hunting and possession of wildlife, resulting in the arrest of 10 persons in multiple actions across the province.
According to official details, wildlife ranger teams in Attock, Jand, Pindi Gheb, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa and Rajanpur conducted coordinated raids against illegal hunting of protected species, including ducks, cranes (kunj), partridges, and wild boar.
Out of the total accused, eight were fined on the spot with cumulative penalties amounting to approximately Rs675,000, while cases against two suspects were formally registered at local police stations, where they have been taken into custody.
In Dera Ghazi Khan, a team led by Deputy Chief Wildlife Ranger apprehended three hunters red-handed in Taunsa for illegal duck hunting. The suspects were fined Rs450,000 as compensation, and the case was settled at the departmental level.
In another case, authorities traced individuals involved in the illegal hunting of cranes after a related video surfaced on social media. Two suspects have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining culprits who managed to escape. An FIR has been registered, and legal proceedings are in progress.
