Rupee's Performance Against US Dollar Since 04 March 2025
The Pakistani rupee registered marginal gain against the US dollar in the inter-bank market on Monday.
At close, the local currency settled at 279.30 against the greenback.
On Friday, the local unit closed at 279.31.
Pakistan recorded a current account surplus of $427 million in February 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday.
However, on a cumulative basis, the country posted a current account deficit of $700 million during Jul-Feb FY26, compared to a surplus of $479 million in the same period last fiscal year.
Internationally, the dollar held near a 10-month high on Monday in a tentative start to the week, as investors braced for a slew of central bank meetings under the shadow of the US-Israel war on Iran.
The dollar retraced some of last week’s strong gains, leaving the euro bouncing slightly from a 7-1/2-month low hit earlier in the session to trade 0.14% higher at $1.1433.
Sterling was up 0.17% at $1.3245, though was not far from the 3-1/2-month low it hit on Friday as it clocked a 1.5% weekly decline.
The dollar index eased slightly to 100.20, but remained perched near last week’s 10-month high.
Furthermore, oil prices fell on Monday amid attacks on Gulf oil production and US President Donald Trump’s call for global efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude futures were down 92 cents at $102.22 a barrel by 1248 GMT while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was down $3.45, or 3.5%, to $95.26.

Open-market movement
In the open market, the PKR gained 9 paise for buying and remained unchanged for selling against USD, closing at 279.44 and 280.36, respectively.
Against Euro, the PKR gained 2.19 rupees for buying and 1.71 rupee for selling, closing at 318.50 and 322.63, respectively.
Against UAE Dirham, the PKR lost 1 paisa for both buying and selling, closing at 75.80 and 76.75, respectively.
Against Saudi Riyal, the PKR gained 4 paise for buying and remained unchanged for selling, closing at 73.88 and 74.83, respectively.
