ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has submitted its Seventh National Report (7NR) on biodiversity conservation to the secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, a United Nations-led global body.
The report highlights the country’s progress in ecosystem protection, forest conservation, and the implementation of international biodiversity commitments. It also outlines efforts to align national policies with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which sets 23 global targets to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030.
The report will contribute to the global assessment of collective progress under the framework, scheduled during the next meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP). The review will take place at COP17 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, from October 19 to 30 in Yerevan, Armenia.
Around 125 countries, nearly two-thirds of the 196 parties to the convention, have submitted their seventh national reports ahead of the global stocktaking process on conservation and protection of biodiversity globally.
Under Article 26 of the biodiversity convention, the196 member states, who are signatory to the convention, are required to periodically (every four to five years) submit national reports, spelling out actions taken to implement biodiversity strategies and conservation policies.
