LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) in its crackdown on electricity theft in the month of February, arrested 24 individuals, imposed fines exceeding Rs74.9 million besides charging more than two million detection units to offenders.
According to statistics received from the LESCO headquarters, a total of 1,796 cases of electricity theft were detected across all operational circles during the month under review. Authorities submitted requests for registration of 1,760 FIRs to the relevant police stations, leading to the formal registration of 547 cases. As a result of ongoing operations, 24 individuals were arrested.
Enforcement actions resulted in the charging of over two million units and the imposition of fines amounting to more than Rs74.9 million. Additionally, recoveries exceeding Rs15.8 million were made during the same period.
Circle-wise performance data shows that the Central Circle topped the list with 358 detected cases, followed by the Eastern Circle with 309 cases and the Northern Circle with 270 cases. In Kasur Circle alone, 21 individuals were arrested. Effective operations were also carried out in Okara, Sheikhupura and Nankana circles, yielding significant recoveries.
LESCO Chief Executive Officer, Engr Ramzan Butt, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuing indiscriminate action against those involved in electricity theft. He stressed that enforcement operations would be proceed without yielding to any pressure.
