ISLAMABAD: The Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has sought a positive adjustment of Rs 1.78 per unit in tariff under monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for January 2026 to recover Rs 15.6 billion from consumers, Discos and KE.
Nepra is scheduled to hold a public hearing on February 26, 2026 to scrutinise the data submitted by CPPA-G.
According to data submitted to Nepra, in January 2026, hydel generation was just 713 GWh constituting 7.80 percent of total generation.

Power generation from local coal-fired power plants was 1,404 GWh in January 2026 which was 15.36 percent of total generation at a price of Rs 11.6217 per unit whereas 1,580 GWh was generated from imported coal at Rs 13.4849 (17.28 percent). Generation from HSD was nil whereas 274 GWh were generated from RFO at a price of Rs 33.5566 per unit (3 per cent of total generation).
Electricity generation from gas-based power plants was 1,117 GWh (12.23 percent) at Rs 12.7439 per unit. Generation from RLNG was 2,002 GWh (21.90 percent of total generation) at Rs 19.9333 per unit.
Electricity generation from nuclear sources was 1,599 GWh at Rs 2.2373 per unit (17.49 percent of total generation) and electricity imported from Iran was 35 GWh at Rs 22.0608 per unit. Power generation, generation from baggasse recorded at 102 GWh price of which has been calculated at Rs 10.3893 per unit.
The energy generated from wind was recorded at 241 GWh, 2.64 percent of total generation and solar at 74 GWh, 0.80 percent of total generation in January 2026.
The total energy generated was recorded at 9,140 GWh, at a basket price of Rs 11.6366 per unit. The total cost of energy was Rs 106.363 billion.
However, after addition of Rs 1.970 billion (Rs 0.2155 per unit) as previous adjustments, sale of 29 GWh to IPPs (Rs1.644 billion) at Rs 57.6518 per unit and transmission losses of 350 GWh at Rs 0.4680 per unit, total cost of net electricity delivered to Discos in January 2026 was 8,762 GWh at a rate of Rs 12.1768 per unit, total price of which was Rs 106.689 billion.
The CPPA-G argued that since reference fuel charges for January 2026 were Rs 10.3954 per unit while actual fuel changes of Rs 12.1768 per unit, hence, positive adjustment of Rs 1.7814 per unit be granted.
