ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday decided to shift PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan to a hospital for further medical evaluation.
In a post on X, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the decision was taken in view of Khan’s health condition and that a medical board would be constituted to oversee his treatment.
“Considering his health, it has been decided to shift him to the hospital and form a medical board,” he said, adding that the government was fulfilling its legal and humanitarian obligations towards all prisoners.
Without naming the hospital, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar earlier said Khan would undergo further examination and treatment at a “specialised medical facility by eye specialists” and that a detailed report would be submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
He urged political parties to avoid conjecture and politicising what he described as a sensitive health matter.
“Timely and proper treatment will be provided as per jail protocols,” he said, adding that leading medical experts were being made available.
The minister said Khan was experiencing an eye problem but there was no threat to his life. Citing a report from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), he said doctors had confirmed there was “no serious issue”.
He also dismissed claims that Khan had lost 85 per cent of vision in his right eye, questioning the source of the figure. “The report issued by Pims does not mention 85 per cent vision loss,” he said.
Tarar said it had not yet been decided which hospital Khan would be shifted to and rejected suggestions that any political deal was being negotiated.
