KARACHI: Pasban Democratic Party Karachi President Abdul Hakeem Quaid has given suggestions to control the sudden and sharp increase in self-induced inflation across the country before Ramadan and said that philanthropists should set up stalls of low-priced goods during Ramadan to combat over-selling.
Supporting people in white is much better than giving charity to beggars. The good people of the society should contribute to breaking the back of the profiteering mafia during Ramadan. Bachat Bazaar and Bachat Ration Stores should be patronized.
He said, availability of food items at cheap rates during Ramadan is the responsibility of the government, but the government has failed miserably in fulfilling this responsibility. The government should issue prices of essential items and ensure their adherence. Food coupons should be issued to people earning less than fifty thousand rupees in the month of Ramadan.
An immediate crackdown should be carried out against hoarders and illegal profiteers responsible for inflation to ensure easy access to food items for the citizens. Price control committees should be made active and empowered to strictly implement the official price lists in the markets. Uninterrupted supply of essential items should be ensured so that artificial shortages can be eliminated. Effective measures should be announced on an emergency basis to provide relief to the people.
Expressing concern over the sudden price hike of everything by profiteering mafias before Ramadan in the Pasban Steering Committee meeting, the PDP leader further said that in a few days, the prices of vegetables, fruits and daily necessities have become uncontrollable, which has made the life of the common man miserable. An extraordinary increase has been recorded in the prices of oil, ghee, gram flour, tomatoes, potatoes, bread, eggs, bananas, apples and other basic essentials, the direct burden of which is falling on the poor and middle class. Such inflation before the holy month of Ramadan is not only injustice to the people but also a serious question mark on the government’s performance.
He warned that arbitrary prices, hoarding and illegal profiteering are going in the markets while the government, administration and price control committees remain silent spectators. If immediate and effective measures are not taken, this situation may worsen.
