TOKYO: Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) said on Friday it plans to restart the No. 6 reactor at the Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant on February 9.
A company official made the announcement at a press conference.
TEPCO shut down the No. 6 reactor, which has a capacity of 1,360 megawatts, after a malfunction was detected in late January, a day after the unit went online for the first time in about 14 years.
Kashiwazaki-Kariwa, the world’s biggest nuclear power plant, is TEPCO’s first reactor restart since the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
