TOKYO: Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) plans to restart a unit at its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant after operations were suspended in January shortly after the initial restart, Kyodo news reported on Thursday.

TEPCO shut down the No.6 reactor after a malfunction was detected in late January, a day after the unit went online for the first time in about 14 years.

Kashiwazaki-Kariwa, the world’s biggest nuclear power plant, is TEPCO’s first reactor restart since the Fukushima disaster in 2011.

Tokyo Electric claims could top $130 billion

The company had earlier said it would delay the commercial restart to late February.
