JI chief steps up criticism of PPP

Published Updated

LAHORE: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has divided Sindh along ethnic and nationalist lines while ruling the province for years as what he termed the “A-team of the establishment.”

Addressing the annual Khatm-e-Bukhari ceremony at Jamia Uloom-ul-Islamia, Mansoorah, Hala, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said the United States is the biggest “taghut” (oppressive power) in the world today, saying that global imperial forces are involved in the genocide of Muslims. He criticised former US President Donald Trump for issuing threats of military attacks and “speaking in a God-like tone.”

He said PPP has enjoyed a free hand in Sindh for nearly 17 years, yet millions of children remain out of school and basic rights such as health, education, employment, and justice are denied to the people. “A single family has ruled Sindh for decades, but 7.8 million children are still not attending schools. Despite receiving trillions of rupees from the federal government, development exists only on paper,” he added.

Rehman said Jamaat-e-Islami would not abandon the people of Sindh and would continue its struggle to free them from injustice and exploitation. He announced that under the leadership of Sindh Ameer Kashif Saeed Sheikh, the party would take public issues directly to the masses and hold the rulers accountable.

Referring to global affairs, he said thousands of children had been killed and millions of homes destroyed in Gaza under Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that Trump had acted as his patron. He criticised Western powers for selectively championing human rights only when it suited their interests, citing recent protests against inflation in Iran as an example.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief stressed that Generation Z included not only school-going children but also students of religious seminaries, children of farmers, labourers, and brick-kiln workers. He announced plans to promote IT education, sports, and skill development among children across Sindh to empower the younger generation.

He also paid tribute to the services of senior religious scholars and leaders, including Maulana Shafi Muhammad Nizamani, Maulana Jan Muhammad Bhutto, Chaudhry Ghulam Muhammad (late), and Professor Syed Muhammad Saleem, for their contributions to the development of Jamia Mansoorah and the promotion of Islamic teachings. He said graduates of the institution were serving the cause of Islam across the world, which was a source of pride for the administration and the Islamic movement.

The event was attended by Sindh Ameer Kashif Saeed Sheikh, Jamia administrator Maulana Ahsan Bhutto, provincial deputy amirs Professor Nizamuddin Memon and Hafiz Nasrullah Channa, General Secretary Muhammad Yousaf, District Ameer Faqir Muhammad Mansori, and other party leaders. Earlier, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman was given a warm welcome and presented with the traditional Sindhi ajrak.
