ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi imposed major penalties on three officers of the Supreme Court Branch Registry, Karachi, for serious lapses in administrative response.

A statement issued by the SC PRO on Saturday states that in disciplinary proceedings concluded under the Supreme Court Establishment Service Rules, 2015, the CJP imposed major penalties on three officers of the Supreme Court Branch Registry, Karachi, for serious lapses in administrative response, including delayed reporting, failure to seek timely written directions, and delay in the reconstruction of judicial record from the available digital copies resulting in institutional concern.

“The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reiterated that institutional integrity, discipline, and strict adherence to prescribed procedures are non-negotiable, particularly in matters concerning official conduct and the administration of justice,” said the statement.

It further stated that in a separate matter reported at anti-corruption hotline, disciplinary proceedings were also concluded against an officer of the Supreme Court Branch Registry, Lahore, resulting in the imposition of a major penalty on account of transparency issues.

The Supreme Court underscores that while welfare and career progression of the members of staff is a priority, nevertheless transparency and compliance with established procedures are indispensable to the credibility of judicial institutions.

The statement also stated that over the past year, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has undertaken a comprehensive exercise to advance the career progression of its staff, reflecting a balanced and responsible approach that values employee welfare while maintaining uncompromising standards of institutional integrity and official conduct.

After a considerable period, the pending cases of upgradation were taken up to address long-standing disparities, bringing majority of staff positions at par with corresponding cadres in the federal government, thereby ensuring fairness, motivation, and institutional harmony.

In recognition of dedicated service and professional commitment, 218 officers and officials across multiple cadres were upgraded to the next pay scale. These included Lower Division Clerks, Upper Division Clerks, Assistants, Editors of Paper Books, Data Entry Operators, Telephone Operators, Court Associates, and Assistant Registrars, among others.

Additionally, on the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee, 57 staff members were promoted, strictly in accordance with prescribed rules, procedures, and merit-based criteria.

The Supreme Court reiterates that while the welfare, motivation, and professional growth of its workforce remain a priority, there will be zero tolerance for any lapse in institutional discipline, integrity, or official conduct.
