ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday condemned an alleged drone strike on a private school in the Moski area of North Waziristan, calling it “irresponsible and unacceptable,” and demanded that the federal government clarify the legal and official basis for the attack.
The strike, which reportedly left the school principal, staff members, and Rescue 1122 personnel seriously injured, has drawn widespread condemnation. PTI described the targeting of an educational institution as a grave violation of human rights and international humanitarian law.
In a statement, the party warned that the incident risks undermining efforts to restore peace and stability in the region, calling it a serious setback to ongoing development and the community’s aspirations for progress.
“Such acts of violence in tribal areas, particularly those that target civilian spaces, erode public confidence and pose a significant barrier to achieving sustainable peace,” the party said.
PTI expressed its condolences to the victims and their families, wishing for the swift recovery of those injured.
The party also called on the government to provide full transparency regarding the attack, including disclosing the legal authority and directives under which the operation was carried out.
PTI reiterated that the state has a constitutional duty to protect its citizens, particularly in regions that are still recovering from prolonged conflict.
The party reaffirmed its stance that indiscriminate use of force cannot replace justice, the rule of law, or the protection of civilian lives. It pledged to continue advocating for human rights, constitutional integrity, and civilian protection.
In conclusion, PTI vowed to remain steadfast in its support for the defence of education, human rights, and lasting peace, opposing any actions that endanger civilian safety or target institutions serving the public good.
