ISLAMABAD: Crime rate continued to rise in the federal capital over the past week, with police records revealed two murder cases, dozens of vehicle thefts and several incidents of robbery and street crime, despite heightened security in wake of terrorism threats.
Data gathered from First Information Reports (FIRs) by Business Recorder shows that Islamabad police across the city registered two murder cases, 38 incidents of vehicle theft, seven street crime cases involving snatching of mobile phones and cash, and 11 robberies during the week.
Criminal activity remained particularly high within the jurisdictions of Industrial Area, Humak, Shalimar, Tarnol, Karachi Company, and Ramana police stations. Residents of these areas expressed deep concern over the growing brazenness of criminal gangs and urged senior police officials to take immediate and effective action.
One of the most shocking incidents reported during the week was the killing of a father by his own son. According to police, Hazrat Ali opened fire on his father Qais, killing him on the spot and injuring his nephew within the limits of Sihala Police Station. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
In another incident, a man identified as Sanaullah, a resident of Karak district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was shot dead during a security check at the Open Air Theatre in Shakarparian, within the jurisdiction of Aabpara Police Station.
During routine security screening at the entrance of the Open Air Theatre, an unidentified assailant wrapped in a shawl approached the victim from behind, approximately 10 to 15 meters from the entry point, and opened fire. Police believe the killing was the result of personal enmity.
Furthermore, criminal activity remained high in other parts of the federal capital. Within the jurisdiction of Industrial Area Police Station, auto thieves stole five motorbikes, while armed robbers carried out robberies at four different locations. Humak Police Station recorded one robbery, one street crime incident, and four cases of auto theft.
Similarly, Shalimar Police Station registered three motorbike thefts and two street crime cases. Tarnol Police Station reported two motorbike thefts and three incidents of armed robbery, while auto thieves stole five motorbikes from areas falling under Khanna Police Station.
The rising crime rate has alarmed citizens, who are demanding stronger security measures and improved police patrolling to curb criminal activities across the capital.
