ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Wednesday met Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtayev at the CDA Headquarters, where both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
During the meeting, the CDA chairman stated that Pakistan attaches great value and respect to its relations with Uzbekistan, describing the Central Asian state as a brotherly country. He emphasized that Islamabad looks forward to deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
The Uzbek ambassador highlighted the strong cultural, social, and religious commonalities between Pakistan and Uzbekistan and expressed gratitude to the CDA chairman for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet him.
The CDA Chairman proposed initiating steps to declare Islamabad and Tashkent as sister cities to further enhance people-to-people and institutional ties.
During the discussion, the Uzbek ambassador requested the allocation of a dedicated area in Islamabad’s F-9 Park for Uzbekistan. Responding positively, the CDA chairman said that space could be allocated either in F-9 Park, Gardenia Hub, or any other suitable park in the federal capital.
The ambassador appreciated CDA’s efforts for the development, cleanliness, and beautification of Islamabad, terming the city exceptionally green, well-planned, and naturally beautiful. He noted that Islamabad’s greenery, cleanliness, and overall urban environment were commendable.
Both sides also discussed the possibility of relocating the Uzbek Embassy to the Diplomatic Enclave. Chairman CDA said the matter could be taken up through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the process.
The CDA chairman briefed the ambassador on ongoing beautification and upgradation initiatives in the Diplomatic Enclave. In addition, the Uzbek ambassador proposed naming one of Islamabad’s major roads as “New Uzbekistan.” The CDA Chairman said the proposal could be formally taken up through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assuring full cooperation from the CDA in this regard.
