Sugarcane crushing in Brazil’s northern regions down

SAO PAULO: Sugarcane crushing in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions reached 32.5 million metric tons through Nov. 30, a 9.4 percent drop versus the year-earlier period, industry group NovaBio said on Friday.

The volume processed so far in the 2025/26 season represents a little more than half of the cane supply projected for the full harvest - which runs from April to March - in both regions.

Together they account for about 10percent of Brazil’s national crop. The North and Northeast were expected to crush 59 million tons of sugarcane in the 2025/26 season, according to November data from the government crop agency Conab.
