LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari welcomed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to Lahore, stating that the Punjab government remains firmly committed to a tradition of political civility, mutual respect and hospitality.
She said that exchange visits between provincial leaderships strengthen national unity and reinforce democratic culture. “We want the KP Chief Minister to gain comprehensive insight into Lahore’s historical, cultural and development models,” she added.
Azma Bokhari said Lahore represents Pakistan’s cultural identity, urban development and civic aesthetic, and many of the improvements achieved here can serve as positive examples for implementation in KP. She encouraged the CM to observe Lahore’s administrative systems, urban planning, public spaces and cultural heritage so that effective practices may be adopted for the welfare of citizens in his own province.
Azma added that even senior officials within KP have acknowledged civic and cleanliness challenges in Peshawar, “so if the KP CM learns from Lahore’s experience, it will ultimately benefit the country.”
The Minister stated that Punjab’s hospitality extends to all guests, whether their visit is political, cultural or informational, and the KP CM is welcome to explore Lahore’s heritage, cuisine and landmarks with complete respect and comfort. However, she issued a firm clarification: “Political activity must not become an excuse for abusive speech, incitement, vandalism, or bringing weapons and narcotics into Lahore or Punjab.
Political conduct must remain dignified, and any attempt to provoke disorder or misconduct will invite lawful action.”
Azma Bokhari highlighted that Lahore is currently adorned with festive Christmas decorations, vibrant lights and cultural displays, and emphasized that the city’s beauty, cleanliness, greenery and historical heritage must be protected. She regretted that in the past some groups caused damage to plants and public decorations, calling such behaviour unacceptable under any circumstances.
The Minister reiterated that Punjab stands by its values of hospitality, political restraint and cooperation, and hopes that the KP Chief Minister will return with positive experiences and constructive insights to apply within his own province for public benefit. “We know how to honour our guests,” she remarked, “but guests must also respect the role of being guests. That is the essence of political ethics and democratic decency.”
