Pakistan receives China’s third humanitarian aid shipment for flood-affectees

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has received third consignment of humanitarian assistance from China for flood-affected communities in Pakistan.

The shipment marks the continuation of China’s humanitarian support. It includes one 100 boats, 5,000 tents, and 8,000 blankets.

The NDMA acknowledged and appreciated the timely humanitarian assistance extended by the Chinese government for disaster relief efforts in Pakistan.

The authority also reiterated its commitment to mobilise all available resources for the relief and rehabilitation of disaster-affected populations.

China provides humanitarian aid for Pakistan’s flood victims

The disaster management body said it will continue to ensure the provision of relief items to affected areas strictly in accordance with ground needs and evolving situation assessments.

With the arrival of the third shipment, China has so far provided Pakistan with 33,000 blankets, 6,000 tents, 100 boats, 1,000 life jackets, and 4,000 sleeping bags.

Pakistan suffered from flashfloods during monsoon season earlier this year, which inundated numerous localities and displaced scores of families, in addition to financial and life loss.

The NDMA chairman on September 27 briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the current situation in flood-affected areas and the rehabilitation plan, during a review meeting chaired by the premier through a video link from the United States.

The meeting was informed that around 350,000 affected individuals have returned to their homes from relief camps and tent settlements.

In Sindh, a number of people were still residing in camps, but as the floodwaters were receding rapidly, they would soon return home, as well.

The meeting was further informed that the distribution of food and relief supplies was ongoing.

The government of Punjab was especially commended in the meeting for taking exemplary steps for the rehabilitation of the affected population.

Suggestions were also presented regarding crop losses and rehabilitation of farmers.

The prime minister directed that a comprehensive report on the damage assessment should be compiled and presented within a week.
