Australia wrapped up an 82-run victory over England in the third Test at Adelaide Oval on Sunday to retain the Ashes, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

England, chasing a challenging target of 435, were dismissed for 352 on the fifth day as Australia collected the remaining four wickets in the second session.

Scott Boland took the final wicket by removing Josh Tongue, while Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins played key roles with the ball on the final day.

England resumed at 207-6, with Will Jacks and Jamie Smith at the crease. Smith showed early intent but was dismissed by Cummins, while Jacks made 47 before falling to a catch by Marnus Labuschagne off Starc.

Starc later dismissed Jofra Archer before Boland ended the innings.

Australia were earlier set a strong platform by Travis Head, who scored 170 in the second innings as the hosts posted 349, setting England a target of 435.

Nathan Lyon was unable to bowl in the final stages after suffering a hamstring injury while fielding and was ruled out of the remainder of the Test.

The victory ensured Australia retained the Ashes with two Tests remaining in the series, to be played in Melbourne and Sydney.
