ISLAMABAD: Senior politicians Mehmood Maulvi and Imran Ismail praised the armed forces for what they described as a historic step towards accountability following the sentencing of former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed (retd).

They also said that Pakistan needs more administrative units to improve governance and solve public problems effectively.

Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, they said the accountability process has begun and would continue, adding that all those, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who benefited from Faiz Hameed’s network, would be held accountable. They also criticised PTI’s current leadership, calling it ineffective and incapable of running the party.

They urged PTI to move away from politics of confrontation and instead engage in dialogue for reconciliation, saying cooperation was necessary to put the country back on the path of stability and development.

They further advised PTI to disassociate itself from social media figures such as Adil Raja, accusing them of spreading propaganda against Pakistan for personal financial gain through online platforms.

Former MNA Mahmood Molvi said that there is a need for additional administrative units in Pakistan to improve the standard of governance and address public issues effectively.

He said people who benefited from former intelligence official Faiz Hameed should not expect relief, adding that Faiz Hameed damaged both institutions and individuals. He said that the PTI was fully benefited from his support, but accountability was now inevitable.

Molvi stressed that all political parties must sit together for dialogue and work collectively for the country’s development.

Former Sindh governor Imran Ismail said that accountability was finally becoming visible and called the conviction of Faiz Hameed a positive step. He urged all political parties, including PTI, to choose dialogue over confrontation and help steer the country out of political crisis.

He criticised PTI’s leadership outside jail and advised the party to distance itself from elements spreading negativity for personal or foreign interests.
