LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has extended a special grant of Rs 22 billion for making payments of medicine arrears in hospitals in addition to the regular budget.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said this while addressing the 19th Syndicate meeting of Rawalpindi Medical University held at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary and Member University Syndicate Ziaullah Shah and Member Punjab Assembly Raja Hanif. Vice Chancellor Rawalpindi Medical University Prof. Muhammad Umar, Tahir Shahbaz, Principal Prof. Muhammad Khurram and other syndicate members.

The meeting paid tribute to the Vice Chancellor and his team for declaring Rawalpindi Medical University as the top ranking university of Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission.

The meeting approved a self-sustainable model for the Institute of Allied Health Sciences. It also approved the MRI contract, ventilator service, boiler repair, furniture and other matters for Holy Family Hospital and Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi.

Khawaja Salman Rafique said on this occasion that efforts are being made to provide better medical facilities to patients in government hospitals. As per Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif vision, hundred percent transparency is being ensured in the financial affairs of Punjab’s medical universities. Modern research is also being promoted in Punjab’s medical schools. Rawalpindi Medical University is appreciated for three clinical specialties of PhD programs such as Medicine, Gastroenterology and Psychiatry.
