LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information & Culture Azma Bokhari has said that after providing free cancer medicines, the Punjab government has now begun allotting free residential plots, which is a clear reflection of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s welfare-oriented vision.
She said that after the overwhelming success of the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” initiative, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has now launched the “Apni Zameen Apna Ghar” project to help low-income families own their homes as early as possible.
Azma Bokhari further stated that Mian Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally called the fortunate recipients of free plots to congratulate them, demonstrating the transparency and people-friendly nature of the housing programme.
She added that 120,000 houses are currently under construction, and the five-year target is 500,000 homes, marking the beginning of a new era of housing development in Punjab. She said the PML-N’s manifesto has always centered on serving the people, whereas the PTI has nothing to offer except protests and agitation.
Azma Bokhari expressed concern that for the last two months, a province of 45 million people has been left leaderless, because its current chief minister is “more concerned about a prisoner than his own people.”
She said the results of the recent by-elections clearly show that people have rejected the politics of chaos and sit-ins, and now stand with those who provide quality education, modern healthcare, and world-class transport facilities. Speaking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Azma Bokhari said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are unfortunate that their Chief Minister has become a caretaker of Adiala Jail, ignoring the problems of his own province. She said those who keep “dancing outside Adiala” have abandoned their responsibilities toward the public.
She added, “They are welcome as guests, but if they come to plan attacks on the federation or finalise rally schedules, then the situation is entirely different.”
She noted that “no good news for Pakistan ever comes from Adiala. Referring to global affairs, she said the Indian delegation’s escape from Oxford University is proof of Pakistan’s effective foreign policy. She added that India has still failed to justify the loss of its eight Rafale aircraft, and continues to fuel instability in the region. “India is waging a proxy war against Pakistan,” she said, adding: “whenever it is exposed, it runs away in the same manner.”
Responding to a question, Azma Bokhari clarified that the Punjab government is not distributing sewing machines, saying, “We don’t have those magical machines that produce billions or help buy foreign properties.”
Regarding the PPP, she said, “The PPP is an ally and the chief minister always accommodates them, but the PML-N government follows a clear policy and a modern governance framework.”
She added that patwaris, tehsildars, and SHOs are no longer appointed on the recommendation of any MPA or MNA.
