Turkiye keen to invest in Sindh’s Special Economic Zones

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Investment and Public-Private Partnership, Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, met with Turkiye’s Consul General Ergul Kadak and Commercial Attaché Murat Ozmen at the Sindh Investment Department office to discuss areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the special assistant provided a detailed briefing on investment opportunities in Sindh, including Dhabeji and Khairpur Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Karachi Education City, Marble City Karachi, and other sectors such as education, agriculture, energy, IT, infrastructure, water recycling, environment, and industry, read a statement.

Qamar also highlighted government initiatives like the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company and tax incentives for investors in Special Economic Zones.

“The Turkish Consul General expressed deep interest in investment in Sindh, especially in the Karachi Education City,” read the statement.

Qamar also informed the Turkish official regarding the production of dates in Khairpur district and highlighted the possibilities of investment in the date sector.

He said that the provincial government remains committed to establishing an SEZ in Hyderabad. He shared that motorcycle and electric appliance manufacturers have shown keen interest in setting up their operations in the SEZ.

The special assistant also highlighted tax exemptions and other incentives for investment in SEZs.

Meanwhile, Secretary Investment Sindh Raja Khurram Shahzad apprised the Turkish delegation about the mineral reserves in the province, sectors available for investment and the ongoing projects.

The SEZ concept is an excellent one to attract investment, but why are they not being given priority, and why are there not more of them? What progress, if any, is there concerning the Islamabad SEZ?
