LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday said the rising percentage of diabetes in Pakistan is alarming and demands a more effective and urgent response to combat this disease.
In her message on World Diabetes Day, she said “diabetes is a dangerous and silent enemy that can be controlled through care, awareness and a disciplined lifestyle.” She emphasised that health is a fundamental right of every citizen and the Punjab government is committed to delivering this right to every doorstep in the province.
While highlighting a groundbreaking initiative, she said that for the first time in history, insulin kits are being delivered directly to the doorsteps of children suffering from Type-1 diabetes. She added that the government continues to ensure the provision of free medicines in all public hospitals, so that no patient bears any financial burden when seeking medical treatment.
She urged citizens to become guardians of their own health by adopting a healthy lifestyle. She emphasised that balanced nutrition, regular exercise and consistent monitoring of blood sugar levels are vital for preventing diabetes.
