“The Islamabad terror attack…”
“Can you explain something to me.”
“What’s there to explain, it was a horrendous attack and….”
“Well, the local media focused on the Interior Minister….”
“Yes, I saw him doing the cat walk…”
“You don’t refer to that as a cat walk…..you refer to it as a….”
“By cat walk, I wasn’t being facetious – I was merely referring to his agile…”
“Shut up. Anyway, you need to explain something to me.”
“I thought I just did; oh, do you mean why he said that they will first identify the suicide bomber….”
“His background will tell us who was actually behind the heinous…”
“But surely they could have given money to a Pakistani and got him to do the dastardly deed.”
“Well, identifying the attacker would enable our law enforcement agencies to investigate.”
“Right, but that’s not what I wanted you to explain to me. What I didn’t understand is why our local media showed the Interior Minister…”
“He was the relevant man.”
“OK, but why did the foreign media not refer to the Interior Minister at all or show his visage but instead focused on what the Defence Minister said.”
“Ahhhh.”
“You have no explanation!”
“Maybe it was a Western plot to undermine our establishment and must be….”
“Hey, back off, I said.”
“Well, perhaps they recalled the Interior Minister’s recent footage with a Taliban leader insisting that the talks in Turkey would succeed even when they were clearly unsuccessful.”
“Nope.”
“Okaaay the real reason is that Khawaja Asif is a politician and knows what to say to catch the media’s attention while the Interior Minister isn’t.”
“Then what is he!”
“Well, he is more on autopilot.”
“Hmmmm.”
