ISLAMABAD: The federal capital witnessed a continued surge in criminal activities; particularly incidents of auto theft, with over 38 cases of carjacking were reported to different police stations across the city during the past week.

According to data compiled by Business Recorder, Islamabad police also registered two cases of murder, 10 incidents of street crime involving mobile phone and cash snatching at gunpoint, and seven cases of robbery in which citizens were deprived of valuables worth millions of rupees. Of the total cases, 36 involved vehicle theft, including seven cars and two motorcycles.

Criminal gangs remained particularly active within the jurisdictions of Industrial Area, Ramna, Lohi Bheer, Khanna, Sabzi Mandi, and Shehzad Town police stations. Residents in these localities have expressed alarm over the growing boldness of criminals and urged senior police officials to take decisive action against such gangs.

In the same period, a tragic incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Sumbal Police Station, where a husband brutally attacked his wife, attempting to sever both her legs with an axe. The woman was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

According to police officials, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police have launched a search operation. They are conducting raids to arrest the accused, assuring that he will be taken into custody soon. The incident has once again raised concerns about the growing number of such crimes and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of laws protecting women.

In the past week, the Industrial Area police station registered three cases of robberies, one case of street crime, and four cases of carjacking. Two cases of robbery, one case of street crime, three cases of auto theft were reported to the Lohi Bheer police station.
