KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon met with a high-level delegation from Iranian Radio and Television. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, cooperation in the media sector, cultural exchanges, and other matters of mutual interest.
The Iranian delegation was led by Dr Ahmad Norouzi, while Abbas Mohammadi Nejad, Murtaza Shamsi, Ali Muhammad Nafchi, and others were also part of the delegation. Sindh Information Secretary Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon was present on the occasion.
During the meeting, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon gave a detailed briefing on Sindh’s ancient civilization, music, and traditional arts. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in broadcasting and production. They also emphasized strengthening people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Iran through media collaboration.
Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that, for the first time in Pakistan, the Sindh Information Department is actively working to promote a positive narrative. He said that dramas, documentaries, and feature films based on the culture and characters of the Indus Valley are being produced. He added that the region continues to face challenges, including terrorism, making it vital for both countries to promote public awareness and encourage positive thinking.
He further said that just as Turkish dramas enjoy great popularity in Pakistan, Iranian dramas should also receive similar appreciation. The Sindh government, he noted, can play a key role in fostering cooperation between Iranian production houses and TV channels with Pakistani media organizations and civil society. Sharjeel Inam Memon also highlighted the importance of involving educational institutions in media training as a need of the time.
The head of the Iranian delegation, Dr Ahmad Norouzi, invited Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon to participate in a festival scheduled to be held in Iran in 2026, expressing the desire that representatives from Pakistan’s public and private media houses also attend. At the end of the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon presented the Iranian delegation with traditional gifts of Ajrak and the Sindhi cap, symbols of Sindh’s rich culture.
