ISLAMABAD: The incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said he and his party condemn terrorism in all its forms and, like every Pakistani, he is committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism from the country.
Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail after the Toshakhana II case hearing, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan quoted Imran Khan as saying that his criticism of policies should not be misinterpreted. “If I criticize the policy, it must be taken as an argument of a politician who wants to find solutions. This country is mine, the army is mine, and the martyrs are ours,” Gohar quoted Khan as saying.
Senator Ali Zafar, who also met the PTI founder in jail, said Imran Khan stressed that terrorism cannot be eliminated through military operations alone. “Like every Pakistani, I want to find a solution to end terrorism. A political strategy is essential to root out this problem,” Zafar quoted Khan as saying.
Gohar said that Khan strongly condemned the use of force against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) workers at Muridke.“Freedom of expression is vital in a democratic society, and force should never be used against unarmed people,” Khan said.
Khan said that PTI will continue its struggle for supremacy of democracy. The new government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will focus on good governance and capacity building of police to improve law and order in the province, Khan further said.
Earlier, Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand, hearing the Toshakhana II case against former Prime Minister and his wife Bushra Bibi at a makeshift court at Adiala Jail, adjourned the case till today (Wednesday) after the prosecution completed its final arguments.
However, the main defense lawyers were not present in court, and the judge directed them to deliver their final arguments in the next hearing.
