GILGIT: Chief Minister Giligit Baltistan Hafiz Hazur Rehman said Friday that the government was taking tangible measures for the socio-economic development of the region.

In past, he added, previous governments neglected the area and its people were leading miserable life in its wake, but as PML(N) came into power after general elections, masses’ problems got resolved.

He said for the first, the development projects were being executed in a planned manner and those schemes were properly monitored in order to ensure that blessings of policies were passed onto the grassroots level.

He said PML(N) government completed 130 projects which had been stopped due to one reason or other by the past governments, adding work on 15 schemes was in progress in the area.

He said that transparency had been ensured in distribution of resources and capacity of institutions of Gilgit Baltistan had been enhanced, enabling them to deliver more efficiently for the uplift of people.

He said that in wake of technical support of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif several development initiatives were taken including supply of medicines and building of MRI center.

 

He said concrete bridges were built for people of far-flung areas to facilitate them while travelling to other parts of the area., adding under a project 50,000 Kanal of land had been brought under cultivation which would bring green revolution in the area.     He said that provincial government started interest-free loans under the chief minister scheme and Rs 73 billion worth loans were given to different families.

He said that beneficiaries were willingly returning those loans and recovery rate stood at 100 percent which was good omen.

He said that government also took measures for improvement of health sector and various initiatives were taken in this regard.

He said the federal government scheme of health insurance cards had been launched in the area, benefiting thousands of people, adding the provincial government had also started health insurance policy which would be extended to all districts of GB in phases.

He said the people had access to quality education and teachers were being recruited on merit, adding this year about Rs 20 billion development budget was expected for the area.
