ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and United Kingdom (UK) have agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, and climate action.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar met with the UK Parliamentary Under Secretary on Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, on Tuesday.

The two sides discussed bilateral and regional issues, reaffirming the strong ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Dar briefed the senior UK official about the evolving situation in Afghanistan and South Asia with particular emphasis on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He said without resolution of the longstanding critical issue of Kashmir, lasting peace in South Asia could not be achieved.

He was also briefed about the situation in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and climate action.

Deputy PM Dar stressed the need to further promote bilateral relationship into a strategic partnership, reflecting the deep historical ties and the aspirations of the 1.7 million-strong British Pakistani community.

The deputy prime minister also shared Pakistan’s perspective on regional matters, particularly the situation in Afghanistan and South Asia.

He highlighted the importance of resolving disputes, including the Jammu and Kashmir issue, to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Falconer reiterated the UK’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Pakistan. He expressed the UK’s willingness to collaborate closely with Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council.

The meeting reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and the UK to further deepen their partnership on issues of mutual interest.
