ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Poland have reaffirmed their mutual desire to intensify cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, energy sector, dairy and agriculture, financial sector as well as defence and other areas of mutual interest.

The understanding was reached in the 8th round of ‘Pakistan-Poland Bilateral Political Consultations’, held here, said Foreign Office in a statement on Tuesday.

Pakistan delegation was led by Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe), Ambassador Muhammad Saleem, while the Polish delegation was led by Under Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, WojciechGerwel. MaciejPisarski, the Polish Ambassador to Pakistan, also attended the consultations.

It stated that the two sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and dialogue.

“They reaffirmed their mutual desire to intensify cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, energy sector, dairy and agriculture, financial sector, defence, migration and mobility, higher education and harmonization of visa regime,” read the statement.

It was also agreed to encourage cooperation between media house and chambers of commerce of the two countries. It added that the two sides discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest and reviewed collaboration at international forums, including at the United Nations. They found convergence of views on important issues and agreed to continue cooperation at the multilateral fora. The next round of Consultations will be held in Warsaw in 2024.

Under Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, WojciechGerwel was on a five-day trip to Pakistan. During the visit, an agreement on the exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports was also signed between Pakistan and Poland. The agreement will facilitate diplomatic dialogue between the two countries in view of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Poland.

Gerwelalso met with Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik and discussed with him further development of the investment of Polish Oil and Gas Company – Orlen and its contribution to Pakistan’s energy market, according to a tweet by the Polish Embassy, Islamabad.
