ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Special Committee on Supreme Judicial Council unanimously elected Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, as its chairman.

A meeting of the Special Committee to prepare and forward a reference or references under Article 209 of the Constitution to the Supreme Judicial Council on the ground of misconduct as discussed in the National Assembly and on such other grounds which are available against any Judge or Judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan was held here on Wednesday for the election of its chairman.

Additional Secretary (Legislation) National Assembly Secretariat briefly apprised the committee about the procedure of election.

Khurshid Ahmed Junejo MNA proposed the name of Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha MNA for chairman, whereas, Salahuddin and Salahuddin Ayubi. MNAs seconded his name; therefore, the Special Committee, unanimously, elected Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha as its chairman.

After being elected as chairman of the Special Committee, Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha presided over the meeting.

All members of the Special Committee congratulated the newly-elected chairman one by one and assured to extend their full cooperation for the smooth functioning of the committee.

The chairman expressed his gratitude to the members for posing confidence in him and assured them to run the business of the committee with consensus.

The committee decided to invite Minister for Law and Justice, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Attorney General for Pakistan to the next meeting of the committee for their expert opinion so that committee could proceed accordingly.

The meeting was attended by Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, Khurshid Ahmed Junejo, Salahuddin, and Salahuddin Ayubi, MNAs.
