LAHORE: In a major relief measure, the government has announced a petroleum relief package of 50 rupees per litre for the low income people of the country. The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here on Sunday.

The Prime Minister said consumers using small vehicles including motorcycles, rickshaws, and 800-CC vehicles will be included in the petroleum subsidy.

Govt increases petrol price by Rs5 per litre

He directed all relevant authorities to finalize a scheme in this regard at the earliest for effective implementation of the subsidy. Shehbaz Sharif said motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles are used by low-income people, so the petroleum subsidy will help provide relief to the poor people.

He said despite severe economic difficulties, the government is trying to help the poor people in every possible way.

Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik briefed the participants of the meeting about the strategy to implement the petroleum subsidy to low-income people.

flawed policy. all the traders in large markets like jodia bazaar, solider, akberi mandi, etc use motorcycles. they earn millions, pay less than 5% tax and will now get subsidized petrol as well.

How may cars of 800cc or less are there on the Pakistani roads? Pakistan's Suzuki and Japanese 660s. You will end up raising demands for these vehicles - import as well as prices Govt. needs to minimise fuel quota for their employees and auction off its excessive and redundant inventory. Furthermore, you have 10 of thousands of vehicles rusting at ports - auction off those - come with a customs policy.

Another mega scale scandal in offing. Why not introduce E-20 petrol (20% Ethanol blended) for all these vehicles? Practice is prevalent next door India. No need to invent wheel. Hard core corrupt bureaucracy & politicians are bent upon venturing into ideas of free ATTA & subsidised petrol.

Points to ponder 1: instead of giving subsidy, why the government is NOT decreasing the fuels prices? 2: on one hand the government is compelled to increase fuels prices, on the other hand the same government is giving subsidy. I'm 100 percent sure government will increase taxes on certain items in order to offset subsidy. 3) to win the coming election by giving subsidy, the government is making ordinary Pakistanis fools. The Imran government has exercised such dirty practice by freezing the fuels prices.

Impossible to administer, lead to massive corruption. But is that the objective ?. Why not increase just vvvip fuel costs, increase HibOctane by Rs 100 per liter, decrease ordinary Petrol by Rs 50 per liter
