LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan held separate meetings with Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Monday and called for paying full attention to public welfare programmes, redressing peoples’ issues and bringing ease in their lives.

Sources claimed that matters concerning current political situation, Punjab local bodies law, development projects and other important issues came under discussion.

The Governor briefed the PM about his visits to Turkey and Britain where he held important meetings with UK MPs and ministers. Chaudhry Sarwar said that everyone appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan peace process. The PM was also apprised on the appreciation of the government’s steps and plans regarding climate change at the international level.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said on the occasion that Pakistan stands with peace and the country had made sacrifices to end the terrorism but regretted that Pakistan has not been credited by the western world for the sacrifices rendered by it in the war on terrorism.

The Governor also informed the premier about Overseas Pakistanis conference being held here at Governor’s House. The Punjab Chief Minister in his meeting briefed the premier about progress made in investigation of Sialkot incident. The PM directed to ensure that such incidents do not occur in future.

The CM apprised the PM about salient features of new local bodies’ law. Under the new local government system, powers have been decentralized at lower level and for the first time, mayors’ elections would be held directly in all districts of Punjab and the mayors would have their own empowered cabinet. He also said this new system was aimed at empowering the local representatives and bringing about the change.

The CM also apprised the premier that steps are being taken in every department and development budget of the province has been increased by Rs 80 billion to Rs 645 billion. The premier lauded steps taken by the Punjab government in health sector and said that health card is exemplary program of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government. The PM also directed to focus more on program of public welfare and priority completion of under construction projects.
