ISLAMABAD: The government has appointed Asim Iftikhar Ahmad as the new spokes-person for the Foreign Office who will be replacing Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri.

Asim Iftikhar Ahmad has recently returned to the headquarters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Thailand where he served as Pakistan's ambassador.

He replaced Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, who has been appointed as Pakistan's new ambassador to Australia.

Iftikhar held senior positions in Pakistan and in the country's missions abroad, including at the United Nations.

He was appointed as a director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2009 and later also served as the director-general, United Nations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2014 to 2017.

From January 2012 to July 2014, Iftikhar served as Minister/Political Coordinator (Security Council), Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations, New York. From October 2010 to December 2011, he served as Director (Security Council & Human Rights), United Nations Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad.
