MOSCOW: Russia reported 9,163 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, including 2,936 in Moscow, which brought the national case tally to 5,126,437.

The Russian coronavirus task force said it had confirmed 351 deaths of coronavirus patients in the past 24 hours, taking the overall official case tally to 123,787.

Rosstat, the Russian state statistics service, keeps its own records and said on Friday that around 270,000 people had died in Russia from COVID-19 and related causes as of April.

The number of excess deaths in Russia, which some epidemiologists say is the best way to measure the real death toll from COVID-19, has reached almost 425,000 from April 2020 to April 2021, according to the Rosstat data.
