Indoor wedding ban: IHC issues notices to NCOC

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notice to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on a petition challenging a ban at wedding halls.

As per details, a single bench comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah directed the NCOC to submit their comments on the petition by November 18.

Petitioner Mukhtar Abbas’s legal representative stated before the court that there is no rationale behind the ban on indoor wedding from November 20.

Justice Minallah questioned whether the coronavirus was not spreading because of big public gatherings being held by political parties.

NCOC on November 6, imposed a ban on gatherings at wedding halls. However, it allowed people to hold weddings in open spaces with a maximum of 1,000 attendees.

The decision was take amid at second wave of deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

NCOC also directed government and private offices to cut their working staff in half. It instructed that only 50 per cent of the employees be allowed to work at offices while the rest from home.
