Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani or Friday asked citizens to wear face masks in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the metropolis and warned that in case of violation, it could lead to Rs1000 fine.

“We have decided to strictly implement the COVID-19 SOPs,” Local media quoted the administrator Karachi, who is also holding an additional charge of Commissioner Karachi.

Iftikhar said that citizens should ensure to wear a face mask to curb the spread of global pandemic as of any violation could lead to strict action against them.

He also warned shopkeeper and market administrators for consequences in case of COVID-19 SPOs violation.

“All deputy commissioners should ensure strict implementation on the SOPs in their respective areas,” the commissioner Karachi said.

The province has registered 579 cases today — more than yesterday's tally that had surpassed nearly three months' infections toll.

Moreover, with 579 new cases, Sindh's tally has lifted to 148,922.

The federal and provincial governments have issued multiple warnings over the past few days, urging the public to follow COVID-19 SOPs, but so far held off on any new lockdown measures to contain the virus.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said the country could not afford another national lockdown and instead urged the masses to strictly follow preventive measures against the novel coronavirus.
