Pakistan, Bosnia ink pact for return of illegal migrants

(Karachi) A bilateral readmission pact to repatriate nearly 3,000 illegal Pakistani migrants has been signed between Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Balkan Insight reported.
The agreement was inked during a two-day visit of the Chairman of the Tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sefik Dzaferovic.
As per the agreement, the Bosnian Security Ministry and the Ministry of Interior for Pakistan are competent authorities for receiving, submitting and processing readmission requests, including those for transit.
Under the pact, readmission and reception of citizens of the two countries and the transit of foreigners will take place through the international airports in Sarajevo and Islamabad.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has been an important route for illegal immigration for over several years and is facing a migrant crisis. The Bosnian government claims that there are at least 23 percent illegal migrants from Pakistan and their numbers are estimated to be around 3,000.
The issue of Pakistani migrants in Bosnia has been a bone of contention between the two countries. Earlier, the former Bosnian security minister accused Pakistan that it does not want to work with Sarajevo on the illegal migration issue.
