Pakistan strongly condemns Kabul University attack: FO

Pakistan has strongly condemned an attack at the Kabul University in Afghanistan and expressed its grief over the loss of life in the terror incident.

At least 19 people were killed and 22 wounded Monday when militants stormed Afghanistan's biggest university in an attack that ended only after hours of fighting with security forces.

While condemning the incident, Foreign Office Spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that Pakistan stands alongside the Afghan people in this difficult time and condole with the families of the victims.

“We strongly oppose all sorts of terror acts,” said the foreign office while reiterating the country’s stance of continuing its support for the peaceful and stable Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s interior ministry spokesman Tariq Arian told AFP that "Three attackers were involved. One of them blew up his explosives at the beginning, two were brought down by the security forces."

Gunmen stormed the facility, sending hundreds fleeing and scrambling over walls of the campus as they tried to escape the firing, witnesses said.

Afghan security forces later surrounded the area, cordoning off all roads that led to the university, witnesses and an AFP correspondent reported.
