Resolution demanding disqualification of Ayaz Sadiq submitted in PA

(Karachi) A resolution was submitted in Punjab Assembly (PA), condemning PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq’s controversial statement on the release of Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, ARY News reported.

The resolution was submitted by PTI MPA Musarat Jamshed Cheema in which she alleged that Ayaz Sadiq's remarks aimed to please former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and India. It stated that Sadiq's comments are against the Constitution and armed forces.

The lawmaker demanded that a reference seeking disqualification of Ayaz Sadiq as a member of Parliament be prepared. She also called for action against the people on whose behest he gave the statement.

In his controversial statement, Sadiq had said that the PTI government had released Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman in capitulation, fearing an imminent attack from India.

The statement was criticised by ministers and by social media users and also prompted the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief Major General Babar Iftikhar to hold a presser in which he sought to "correct the record" regarding the events that surrounded India's violation of Pakistani airspace last year in February.

The DG ISPR said "a statement was given yesterday which tried to distort the history of issues associated with national security," purportedly in reference to Sadiq's remarks.
