  • A notification issued by the government stated that the ban has been imposed in view of deteriorating law and order situation in the city
Published October 11, 2020

(Karachi) The Sindh Home Department imposed a one-month ban on pillion riding in Karachi, media reported on Sunday.

A notification issued by the department stated that the ban has been imposed in view of deteriorating law and order situation in the city. However, women, senior citizens and media persons will be exempted from the ban on pillion riding, according to the home department. Children under the age of 12 will also be exempted from the prohibition.

Earlier, several incidents were reported in the metropolis including hand grenade explosions, targeted killings of law enforcement personnel and religious scholars.

On October 10, religious scholar Maulana Adil Khan was sitting in a vehicle parked outside Shama shopping centre when suspects on motorcycles approached and opened fire on him.

A third person, Umair, was also accompanying Maulana Adil and survived the incident. He had gone inside the shopping centre to buy mithai (sweet meats). As a result, Maulana Adil was killed on the spot while his driver succumb to injuries later at the hospital.
