KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday sought replies from the attorney-general for Pakistan and the advocate-general of Sindh over delay in construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway.

The court also issued notices to the principal secretary to prime minister, the chief minister of Sindh, the National Highway Authority (NHA) and others, who have been made respondents in the petition.

The court ordered the attorney-general for Pakistan and the advocate-general of Sindh to submit their replies in four weeks. The petitioner submitted that the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway was to be completed in the tenure of the previous government and stated that the Multan-Sukkur Motorway had been made operational some time back after its completion.

The petitioner submitted that construction work on the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway had been halted and prayed the court to order relevant departments to submit their comments in the court about the project.

Meanwhile, a division bench issued notices to chief secretary and Local Government secretary of Sindh in a petition against releasing of toxic water into the sea. The petitioner submitted that waste water of Karachi was being released in the Arabian Sea, which was harmful to marine life.
