CNG stations closure extended as gas crisis persists

  • The shutdown of CNG in Sindh including Karachi has been extended for another 24 hours after which the CNG stations which were supposed to open today will now be open tomorrow at 8 am.

The gas supply continues to persist in Karachi, which has lead to the extension of the closure of CNG stations across Sindh.

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) despite its claims to revert gas supply to normal has so far been unsuccessful, which has lead to increase in power outage and other issues.

On the other hand, the shutdown of CNG in Sindh including Karachi has been extended for another 24 hours after which the CNG stations which were supposed to open today will now be open tomorrow at 8 am.

SSGC stresses that there is no gas load shedding in its franchise areas. Instead, a low-pressure situation has been created due to diminishing gas supplies from different gas fields owned by E&P companies.

Currently, SSGC faces a shortfall of 150 mmcfd gas as a result of which the Company's line pack system has been effected. SSGC is therefore following the Government's gas load management plan whereby the Company is giving first preference in the supply of gas to the domestic sector.

It is pertinent to note here that Sinjhoro and Zarghun Gas Fields are undergoing Annual Turn Around (ATA) right now and a number of other gas fields too, are injecting reduced gas into SSGC's system. Hence there are complaints of low gas pressure from the customers.

SSGC had also expressed fears of a massive gas shortage in the winter. According to Sui Southern, there will be a shortfall of 300 million cubic feet or 25 percent gas shortage in the winter.
