Korangi Industrial Area: Minister urged to take notice of deteriorating water, sewerage infrastructure

KARACHI: President of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI), Sheikh Umer Rehan has urged the Provincial Minister for Local Bodies Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to take immediate notice of deteriorated water supply and sewerage infrastructure in Korangi Industrial Area (KIA), causing great loss to industrial potential of the area since weeks.

KARACHI: President of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI), Sheikh Umer Rehan has urged the Provincial Minister for Local Bodies Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to take immediate notice of deteriorated water supply and sewerage infrastructure in Korangi Industrial Area (KIA), causing great loss to industrial potential of the area since weeks.

He mentioned that incompetence of higher officials of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB) is evident from the situation of the KIA where many sectors have been drenched into sewerage water and numerous industries were deprived of water supply.

He mentioned that specially sector 23 and 15 were facing sever sewerage issues since years. Water supply situation has also been worst in KIA. Sheikh Umer Rehan said that if MD Water Board could not resolve the long awaited issues related to water and sewerage infrastructure ever after much hue and cry from the citizens of the city, then he should resign from the post.

He said that these long-awaited issues were causing million of losses to industries and would impact country's economy drastically "We need serious action on the issue as soon as possible," he added. He also urged MD KW&SB Khalid Sheikh to direct concerned officials to move their resources to solve these issues and provide services to the area as this is the biggest industrial area of the country and any delay in resolving these issues would directly impact country's exports. He urged Sindh government to establish a mechanism in KW&SB to respond and act upon complaints of Industrial Areas.
