Pakistan’s NUTECH University develops ventilator to meet local needs

The National University of Technology NUTECH has handed over an indigenously developed ventilator to the National Radio and Telecommunication Center (NRTC) for commercialization.

“Production will commence soon,” said Federal Minister of Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain in a tweet post. As per the minister, NUTECH scientists and engineers have commenced work on 3D Printer and portable X-Ray System as part of COVID-19 Initiatives under MoST.

Pakistan has made rapid strides in the field of medical engineering amid the coronavirus pandemic, as the country sought to make itself self-sufficient in the production of much-needed PPEs and ventilators.

A number of local research institutes and manufacturing companies have developed ventilators to meet the local demand, as the country eyes to export ventilators in the near future.

Just days ago, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has approved the ventilator design from Alsons, a Karachi based group specializing in the manufacturing of mechanical components (from bars, plates, forgings, and castings), CNC plastic injection molding, stamping, and assemblies in the fields of hi-tech engineering, aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, and power sector.

The development was shared by Fawad Hussain in a tweet post. “One more production line and Pak will allow export of ventilators,” said the federal minister while congratulating the company for its achievement.

Back in July, the NRTC became the first organization in Pakistan to indigenously developed and started local manufacturing of “SafeVent SP100”.
