6th September Defence day: Message from General Qamar Javed Bajwa Nishan-e-Imtiaz (M) Chief of Army Staff

TEXT: 6 September marks a glorious chapter in the history of Pakistan by virtue of the matchless valour and courage of our martyrs and heroes. Defence and Martyrs Day marks the reaffirmation of a pledge and a resolve. This day perpetuates the great national spirit which enabled Pakistan Army not only to shatter the enemy's nefarious designs with the support of the nation but also etched an everlasting saga of resolve, bravery and sacrifice. On this historic day, we salute the Shuhada and Ghazis who testified to the undying faith that the honour, sanctity, safety and security of the country worth far more than our blood and our lives. This resolve to confront any peril to the dignity of the country still surges in our Armed Forces and the nation alike.

The evolving regional scenario poses new challenges to the motherland but we are fully alert to frustrate the stratagems and designs of our adversaries. Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) and the growing provocations on the Line of Control pose a live and present danger to peace. In this backdrop, Indian action of 5 August 2019 constitutes sheer violation of UN Charter and the UN Security Council resolutions. As a responsible state, Pakistan seeks peace and friendly relations with all its neighbours but our desire for peace must never be misconstrued as weakness. Pakistan Army is always prepared to effectively counter any misadventure and uphold the sanctity of our inviolable frontiers. We are working toward balanced and independent bilateral cooperation and fraternal relations with all regional states which guarantees lasting regional and global peace.

Nation's unwavering trust in Pakistan Army's exceptional professionalism and defence capability is our honour and an invaluable asset. The national solidarity displayed during the past decades to successfully combat terrorism and external subversion illumines our paths for the future. I am proud that our soldiers brim with the spirit of sacrifice and are custodians of the gallant traditions of our ancestors. Our martyrs, their brave families and the gallant battle heroes of Pakistan Army deserve rich homage for defeating the enemies of Pakistan in the past and, INSHAALLAH, this nation will remain iron clad against their evil intents in future as well.
