LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has been directed to increase number of its inspection teams for major cities to check adulteration in food and beverages.

Food Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan issued these directions while chairing a meeting of the Authority here on Friday. Chairman Umar Tanveer Butt and Director General Irfan Memon were present in this meeting.

Abdul Aleem Khan asked the officers of authority to increase operations in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan and Bahawalpur. These teams should be fully mobilized so that a sense of security regarding food items could be promoted among the common citizens for which restructuring should be made.

He said that provision of food items in accordance with the principles of standard and hygiene is a fundamental right of every citizen and the government will not allow anyone to play with the lives of others for their own benefit.

He said the Punjab Food Authority should upgrade its activities as per modern requirements and take legal action against those caught

in adulteration more than once.

He directed that the Punjab Food Authority should also regularly publicize its activities in the media so that the elements involved in creating confusion among the people could be suppressed.

Chairman Punjab Food Authority Umar Tanveer Butt briefed the Senior Minister about the performance of the organization.

Director General Irfan Memon also highlighted the working of Authority across the province and pointed out various issues.
