Lahore police adds terrorism clauses in FIR against Maryam, Safdar in NAB clash case

  • A sessions court has also rejected the bail plea of Safdar, PML-N workers.

Lahore police added on Friday Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, in the FIR against Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz, her husband captain (retd) Safdar for inciting riots outside the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last month.

Appearing before a sessions court today, Safdar requested bail in the case, saying that police had registered a false and baseless case against him. However, Chung police submitted which stated that officials had added terrorism clauses to the FIR against Maryam, Safdar and PML-N party workers.

The investigating officer said since the section has been added, the sessions court no longer has the jurisdiction. The court said that it cannot grant pre-arrest bail granted to the petitioner. The court then rejected Safdar and other PML-N workers' interim bail plea, local media reported.

In August, when Maryam reached the NAB office to appear and record her statement in the investigation into illegal acquisition of 3,500 kanal of land in Raiwind, PML-N workers and police clashed outside resulting in the injury of several people.
